Export and Innovation Awards

With the annual Export and Innovation Awards, the Department of Innovation, Business and Rural Development recognizes our province’s exporters and innovators who are creating new opportunities and market niches with their products and services.

With so many great things happening in Newfoundland and Labrador, we have created three distinct awards to celebrate excellence in export and innovation: Exporter of the Year; Innovation in Business; and Distinction in Innovation.

Exporter of the Year

The Exporter of the Year Award acknowledges the outstanding success of local entrepreneurs and businesses that have achieved commercial export success. The recipient of this award has significantly contributed to the province’s economic growth and has excelled at competing and succeeding in the global marketplace.

2010 Awards

• Winner: Ocean Choice International Inc. - a fully integrated seafood company with operations in all aspects of the seafood industry. Its international sales force markets Ocean Choice’s shellfish, groundfish and pelagics to customers around the world.

• Mad Rock Marine Solutions

Innovation in Business

The Innovation in Business Award recognizes a company for its outstanding achievement in creating new opportunities to advance its business through innovation. The recipient will have successfully launched an innovative product, process, or service through its strategic risk-taking. This approach has positively impacted the company’s growth and market potential.

2010 Awards

• Winner: Dynamic Air Shelters - manufacturer of inflatable air shelters for distribution around the world. From the Gulf Coast to the high Canadian Arctic, Dynamic Air Shelters products are being used in urban and remote locations for industrial, promotional and first response applications.

Distinction in Innovation

The Distinction in Innovation Award recognizes an individual or group that makes an outstanding contribution towards Newfoundland and Labrador’s innovative culture. The recipient is a leader who is enthusiastic about fostering new ideas that have positively impacted the province and its people. The recipient has created or identified successful opportunities for industry by collaborating and building partnerships.

2010 Awards

• Winner: Distance Education and Learning Technologies (DELT) - responsible for the development and delivery of online and distance education. DELT has responded to the challenge of providing learning opportunities to all areas of the province by embracing innovation and technology. They have partnered on community-based projects, developed learning tools, and offer more than 400 courses to almost 18,000 distance education registrants annually.

Export and Innovation Week

Export and Innovation week provides Newfoundland and Labrador businesses, organizations, youth and those among us who are entrepreneurs and innovators, with a province-wide opportunity to participate in, learn about and celebrate the many successes, advances and opportunities ongoing in export and innovation.

The Department of Innovation, Business and Rural Development conducts various information sessions, workshops and local events throughout the province during the week.
