Trade Development Highlight...
Information Session Updates: The United States and United Kingdom
During the year, the Department of Innovation, Trade and Rural Development (IBRD) coordinates information sessions on particular markets and sectors. This spring, IBRD held information sessions about the United States and the United Kingdom markets.
An information session is an inexpensive way for a business to learn about different markets and sectors. Businesses from throughout the province and a variety of sectors shared their experiences and consultants shared their expertise. Thank you to all of the companies and experts in the field who took part.
The United Kingdom and the United States are priority markets for IBRD and trade development work in these markets is ongoing. If you are interested in learning more about them, please contact the department’s trade officers. We look forward to hearing from you.

Traditional & Emerging Markets
The Department of Innovation, Business and Rural Development continues to focus on priority markets such as New England, Southeastern and Midwestern United States, Ireland, Panama, Iceland and Greenland.
New markets being explored include the United Kingdom, Brazil, China and India.
Did you know…
- Iceland is a modern European economy with strong economic foundations in fisheries, natural renewable energy sources and human capital that will allow Iceland to overcome the economic difficulties it is going through, like so many other countries around the world
- The United Kingdom, a leading trading power and financial centre, is one of the quintets of trillion dollar economies of Western Europe.
- In Panama, it is important to take time to build a business relationship - personal introductions are important. "Who you know" is often as important as "what you know".
- In February 2011, China formally overtook Japan to become the world's second-largest economy, behind the United States.
Please contact the department's trade officers for more information on these exciting markets.

The Atlantic Food and Beverage Processors Association is hosting, for the fourth time, an Atlantic Canada pavilion at the Americas Food & Beverage Show in Miami. The association has reserved eighteen booths in a very strategic location at the entrance to the show.
The Americas Food & Beverage Show is an excellent opportunity for Atlantic Canadian companies to develop the exciting and growing Latin American market. In addition, the United States Department of Agriculture works to bring in buyers from the whole region. Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada will again this year be providing a chef and chef’s station to help showcase our products and Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and the Canadian Consulate will again be supporting the event by providing critical on-site promotion support.
