Innovation and Advanced Technology Division

Services

The Innovation and Advanced Technology Division provides policy development, strategic planning and coordination support for industry growth in advanced technology industry sectors including ocean technology and marine science, defence and aerospace, life sciences and biotechnology, environmental technologies, information and communications technology (ICT), and telecommunications/broadband. The Division:

Collaborates with external stakeholders from the private, public and academic sectors to foster increased R&D, scientific discovery and invention, knowledge and technology transfer, and commercialization, and to improve Newfoundland and Labrador’s innovation performance.
Leads significant development and promotional efforts regarding innovation-related policy and programs, and works closely with a broad range of stakeholder groups to enhance community integration within provincial technology clusters.
Ensures that the Department's policies and programs encourage innovation and productive partnerships with industry and academia.
Provides ongoing strategic direction and implementation of the provincial innovation strategy, Innovation Newfoundland and Labrador: A Blueprint for Prosperity.
Develops policies and programs that contribute to the provincial innovation strategy through further growth and expansion of the province’s ocean technology cluster.
Promotes R&D and business opportunities in both established and emerging sectors of the economy.

- Ocean Technology Programs
- Innovation Awards
